We will meet again I

We Will Meet Again is a series of works based on three separate portraits that explore memory and presence — and the way a person or a moment can continue to exist even in their absence. Within the larger body of work In Between The Lines, which explores pauses, fragments, and the space between moments, this series focuses on remembrance and the way memory allows people and moments to persist beyond their physical time.

The surface of each work is covered with layers of handwritten text, repeated until the writing becomes dense and almost unreadable, transforming language into a visual field. From a distance, a faint portrait begins to appear through the text, almost like an image trying to emerge from memory. The face is never fully clear; it appears and disappears depending on how long the viewer looks, much like memory itself — unstable, shifting, and reconstructed over time.

In these works, the text acts both as a veil and as a container of memory. It hides the image while at the same time preserving it. This layering reflects the way memory functions: memories are built over time, covered by other experiences and other thoughts, yet certain faces, moments, and encounters continue to resurface, even after long periods of absence.

The title We Will Meet Again does not necessarily suggest a physical meeting, but rather the way people return through memory, through thought, through images, and through time itself. The works exist in a space between presence and absence — where someone is no longer physically present, yet continues to exist visually, mentally, and emotionally.

The viewer is asked to spend time with the work, because the image does not reveal itself immediately. It appears slowly, just as memory does — through duration, attention, and the act of looking. In this way, the work becomes not only an image, but an experience of remembering — a reminder that absence does not erase presence, and that some encounters continue to exist within us, reappearing over time.
